"Good character is more to be praised than outstanding talent. Most talents are, to some extent, a gift. Good character, by contrast, is not given to us. We have to build it piece by piece -- by thought, choice, courage and determination."

07/16/09- DEAD ZONE
There's not much WORSE than driving on a backwoods road, or heavily wooded highway and it hits you with a relentless power seldom felt...a CELL PHONE DEAD ZONE!!!  It's as if you have a USELESS CELL PHONE!!!  No matter how expensive your phone is, how many things it does or APPS it has...once a "dead zone" hits, you're helpless until it releases its nasty claws.  (As you can see, I'm somewhat passionate about this!!!)

Have you ever felt like this while READING YOUR BIBLE?  I know for me, as a full time minister of over SEVEN years, this tends to be one of the battles I face the most with my relationship with God and His Word...DEAD ZONES!!!  I go through seasons where I read a verse, chapter, book, OLD TESTAMENT (J/K)...close the Bible and within TWENTY MINUTES feel like nothing has been done.  I have a tough time remembering what I read let alone feeling as if GOD SPOKE TO ME!

Have you ever felt like this.  DEAD ZONES in your time in God's Word?  Thankfully Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, speaks in full about how the Bible can be more than information forgotten and overlooked, but treasured and longed for.

As Solomon is speaking to his son, he says this, "My son, do not forget my teaching, bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, then you will find favor and a good reputation with God and man."

So, how do you WRITE God's word on the "tablet of your heart"?  What does that mean?

In Hebrew, the "heart" meant the DOOR...the hinge that controlled emotions, thoughts, words, etc.  In present day vernacular, Solomon is requesting that his son use the Bible as a METAL DETECTOR, not allowing anything to get into his heart unless it is "wanded" by God's Word!

Could it be that DEAD SPOTS are impossible when the Bible is OFFENSIVELY used as a metal detecting wand for our life.  Wanding our thoughts, our emotions, our interests, passions, actions, Ipods, TV Shows, movies...our LIFE!  Could it be that God wants his Word to be more than information that is trapped in our head, but something that captures our passion and is "written on the tablet of our heart"?

Dead Spots CAN'T exist when we begin to write God's Word on the DOORPOST of our heart!
